For small towns in the rural areas of this country, ideas and the desire are often in plentiful supply, but money often is not. Rural Resurrection is always on the hunt for grants that can help rural communities. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Trail Grants Program is the latest grant program we’ll take a look at as a source of funding.

As stated in a recent social media post:

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s 2023 Trail Grants Program is “designed to accelerate local and regional trail network plans across the country, expanding access to more places for people to safely walk, bike and spend time outdoors nationwide.”

The Conservancy is providing $200,000 in grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. Project funding will be prioritized for grants that meet the TrailNation™ initiative vision: equitable trail networks as essential community infrastructure.

The grants are available to nonprofit organizations as well as state, regional, local or tribal agencies. But the Conservancy does emphasize that it encourages organizations and agencies that represent or serve low-income regions or communities of color.

The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on July 31, 2023. Unfortunately, that doesn’t give much time to apply for the grant funds. But the application shouldn’t be too daunting and time-consuming. Especially if you have a shovel-ready project that just needs an additional boost of funding.
