For some fall is tough to look forward to. The warm summer months are starting to fade as cooler weather moves in. The morning traffic increases as kids are returning to class. Summer vacations are quickly becoming distant memories. But there is one thing Nebraskans in the planning and zoning field can look forward to as we march towards fall…the Nebraska Planning Conference!

Each year the Nebraska Planning and Zoning Association (@NPZA), along with its sister organization the Nebraska Chapter of the American Planning Association (@APA_Nebraska) holds the Nebraska Planning Conference. It’s a unique partnership between two different organizations with a common goal in planning and zoning leadership for the state of Nebraska. The result is an affordable source of planning and zoning information for small-town city clerks, planning commissioners, and rural county zoning administrators. Yet, at the same time, it provides higher-end education and CM for AICP-certified planners from the larger communities.

This year’s conference has tracts on housing, economic development, and rural issues. Some of the notable speakers are:

  • Petra Hurtado (@PetraSHurtado) – Research Director for APA National
  • Craig Bennett, AICP (LinkedIn) – Land Development & Planning at Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C.
  • Kurt Christiansen, FAICP (@basicla) – Past President of APA

Personally, this year will be unique for me as it will be the last year of my presidency. I’ve served the Nebraska Planning and Zoning Association as their president for much of the past decade. It has been a great experience. I’m honored to have great friends who have helped me over the years with all the great things that we have accomplished!

For those with involvement in the planning and zoning field in Nebraska, this conference is a must. Check out the NPZA webpage for more.
