HGTV’s Home Town Takeover contest has provided ample opportunity for small towns throughout the United States to show off what makes them special. It also shows how each of these towns could use help in making their community better. The passion and desire exhibited by residents to have HGTV come into their community and make a difference is clearly evident from town to town.
In January Rural Resurrection posted about the contest and followed up with some submittals from Nebraska. Here are a couple more examples of communities that have made significant submittals to the contest to lure the new HGTV series to come to town.
Vermillion, South Dakota
At 10,000 residents strong, with the University of South Dakota in their back pocket, it isn’t hard to believe that Vermillion put together a strong video for the contest. That’s just what they did though. However, this one is pretty hard to pass by. There’s many communities three times Vermillion’s size that would love to have a promotional video about their community that is this good.

Waterford, Wisconsin
Other communities like Waterford have created entire Facebook pages dedicated to the effort to draw HGTV in to take over their town. This town of 5,500 had over 50 videos submitted to their page that they forwarded on to HGTV. They now have over 3,200 people following their Facebook page. Provided below is their main video submittal, but there are plenty more on their page.
Good luck to these communities and the other rural communities throughout the United States that submitted!
