Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development unveiled the Rural Data Gateway, providing easier access to a variety of data to make rural projects easier.

USDA Rural DevelopmentAccording to the press release when the Gateway was rolled out:

“The Rural Data Gateway will help USDA better target resources to the people who need them most in rural places. It also will help the Department be a stronger partner to rural people, entrepreneurs, government officials and other stakeholders.”

Through the various dashboards in the Gateway, users can utilize easy-to-use tools that highlight critical projects that have helped rural residents over the past 11 years. The data provided is also designed help visitors to the website analyze trends across different states, counties and congressional districts.

The website also breaks down the amount of investment to communities throughout the United States. It even specifically breaks down the investment the USDA has had in Socially Vulnerable Communities.

It is not exactly the data that I originally envisioned when I first heard about the Gateway. But it is interesting to see how other communities are using USDA’s resources. It may generate better ideas of how your community can utilize USDA and the opportunities that they can provide.
