This year’s National Planning Conference (NPC) in San Francisco was a great event. Leading things off was APA President Kurt Christiansen (@basicla), who also spoke at the recent Nebraska Planning Conference in as well. Kurt introduced everyone to Vijay Gupta. A violinist an advocate for social justice with a big heart and an invigorating message to the thousands of planners in attendance.

While at the conference I attended a number of sessions that were very informative and sparked my thoughts on what to write about in the coming weeks. Some of these sessions were: Pedestrian Placemaking For All, Investing in Health, Revitalizing Rural Communities; Redefining Planning and Economic Development; and Getting a Return on Creative Placemaking. Keep an eye out for posts related to these sessions in the near future.

Rounding out the event was the closing speaker, Brett Culp who said many profound things about leadership. Including one of my favorites:

Already looking forward to APA’s National Planning Conference in 2020 to be held in Houston, Texas.
